Once Upon a Prince

Once Upon a Prince, by Rachel Hauck

Susanna Truitt is a simple girl who lives in contryside of Georgia in the States. In the city by the sea she was involved with Adam for 12 long years, and now that he out an end to their engagement, she seeks a path to rediscover herself. Her graduation as Landscape Artist is not much appreciated in such a small town, and help her parents in the restaurant they own is more advantageous financially. She seeks comfort in the quieter place she knows, the Lovers Oak, a centennial tree where she feels good. But it all starts to get worse when she sticks a tire and a strange guy appears wanting to help. She is terrified by the moment another man comes to her aid, presents himself as Nate Kenneth and save her from the situation. Nate and Susanna start to chat and become friends in the following days, however she realizes some things different about him, a foreigner from the Kingdom of Brighton visiting the U.S. He even helps serving tables at The Rib Schack, family Truitt's restaurant. That's when Susanna discovers that Nate is actually Prince Nathaniel, destined to become the king of Brighton soon. Their relationship does not change by principle, as they are just getting to know each other and be friends, but he reveals that a law of his country prohibits members of the nobility in the line of succession to the throne to marry foreigners, and an agreement with the  Hassenberg reign coming to an end, and Nate should resolve the situation in the country as well. The country's media points to a marriage with Lady Genevieve, that promises to solve all these problems at once. But the path of the heart is not always compatible with the duty, and Nate falls in love with Susanna. While she struggles to unravel her feelings for Nate, she must rebuild her life almost from scratch while trying to find her place in the world and herself. The author's style is very fluid and fun, the story was very well written and reasoned, no holes in the plot. As I read it in English, I suggest to anyone who wants to start reading the language, since the writing is simple. The only difficulty are some slang or abbreviations, but the context makes that clear.
